State Department for Transport Conducts Pre-retirement Training Course
The State Department for Transport began a week-long pre-retirement training course today, for officers due for retirement, at the North Coast Beach Hotel in Kikambala, Kilifi County.
The objective of the pre-retirement training is to sensitize and equip officers who are about to retire with insights on what to expect after leaving the service and how to cope with the inevitable change.
In a speech read by the Secretary Administration, Mr. Ibrahim Abdi, Principal Secretary Mr. Mohamed Daghar, said the course is aimed at giving participants a road map for life after exiting the civil service, equip them with knowledge and skills that will enable them to face life after retirement with boldness while enriching their social growth.
The PS expressed his hope that the training will help to allay fears of the unknown amongst officers who may find it difficult to let go of office life as they prepare to transition into retirement.
The programme, organized by the State Department’s Human Resource Management and Development Department will see participants taken through pertinent topics including HRM requirements in pension preparation; psycho-social retirement preparedness; pensions processing, computation and award; financial and effective time management; mental health wellness in retirement; stress management and healthy lifestyle; post-retirement opportunities and challenges; networks and social engagements and managing investments, business ideas and plans.
Mr. Abdi said that the training was long overdue and called upon the participants to translate the knowledge and skills learned from the course into practice.
