State Department Undertakes Tree Growing Activity in Lambwe Forest, Homabay County
Today, in Lambwe Forest, Homa-Bay County, the State Department for Transport, led by the Environmental Conservation Committee, is engaged in a tree planting initiative. The exercise aligns with the Presidential directive to plant 15 billion trees to achieve a 30% tree cover by 2032. This will help in mitigating the negative effects of climate change, reverse deforestation and restore degraded landscapes across the Country.
The exercise saw the team, which was hosted by the Kenya Forest Service led by Homa-Bay County’s Chief Forest Conservator (CFC) Sharon Cheluget, local community residents, plant a total of 5,000 tree seedlings that included Terminalia brownii, Croton Megalocarpus, and Macadamia lutea species.
