The Principal Secretary for Roads Eng. Joseph Mbugua inspected the construction works for the upgrading to bitumen standards of Isiolo Township roads projects.
Accompanied by the Director General of the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) Eng. Silas Kinoti, the PS said the road project will boost the governments development agenda in the region by facilitating access to the Resort City (LAPSSET Program) and provide connectivity between Isiolo International Airport, the Livestock market and the Isiolo Abattoir.
Eng Mbugua said the road project was 10 km long and consisted of a number of link roads within Isiolo Township. These include: the Tulu Roba Link Road; Nyara-Airport Road; Water-AI Hidaya Mosque-Kiwanjani Primary School Road; A2- Fisheries-Jamal Bridge Road; Marire Bridge-Kulamawe Loop Road; Bula Pesa-Odha Cemetery Road; Odha Cemetery- Livestock Market-A2 Road, and A2- Mwangaza Primary-Airport Road.
The PS said the project would be implemented under the supervision of KURA at a cost of Kshs. 840 million which will be fully funded from the government exchequer.
He said the project was expected to be completed in July 2025 and is expected to improve urban mobility in the township, improve its drainage system and its environmental conditions. It will also enhance access to social amenities such as schools, hospitals and government offices.
