President Launches Upgrading of Ongata Rongai SGR Station Access Road
His Excellency President William Samoei Ruto today officially launched the upgrading of the Ongata Rongai Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) Station Access Road to bitumen standard, marking a significant milestone in enhancing transport connectivity in the area.
Principal Secretary for Transport, Mr. Mohamed Daghar, CBS, joined the President during the launch, underscoring the Government’s commitment to strengthening integrated transport infrastructure and improving access to rail services.
The project, being undertaken by Kenya Railways Corporation, will provide safe, reliable and all-weather access to the proposed Ongata Rongai SGR Station, improving connectivity between surrounding communities and the railway network.
The scope of works includes road construction and upgrading, drainage and culvert works, ground improvement and pavement construction, pedestrian walkways and crossings, road signs and markings, safety features, property-access crossings, and environmental protection and reinstatement works.
The upgraded access road will enhance mobility for residents, commuters, businesses and other road users while supporting the integration of rail transport with the wider road network.
The project is also designed to provide durable connectivity in an area with challenging black-cotton soils, with drainage, culverts, pedestrian facilities and other supporting infrastructure incorporated alongside the road pavement.
The launch reaffirms the Government’s commitment to improving transport connectivity and expanding access to opportunities for communities around Ongata Rongai, in line with Kenya’s infrastructure development priorities under Vision 2030.
