Ministry Of Roads and Transport Leads Mangrove Planting Initiative in Jomvu, Mombasa County on National Tree Growing Day

The Ministry of Roads and Transport, in collaboration with various stakeholders, spearheaded a tree-planting campaign on National Tree Growing Day, planting over 27,000 mangrove trees at Aldina Creek in Jomvu, Mombasa County.

Dr. Duncan Hunda, Secretary for Transport Policy Planning Finance and Coordination of State Corporations, representing Cabinet Secretary Hon. Kipchumba Murkomen, led the Ministry team.

The event saw the participation of high-ranking officials, including Kenya Ports Authority Managing Director, Capt. William Ruto, Directors from Kenya Railways Corporation, Lamu Port South Sudan Ethiopia Transport Corridor (LAPSSET) Authority Director General, Mr. Stephen Ikua, Director - Shipping and Maritime Affairs, Ms. Beatrice Nyamoita accompanied by staff from the Ministry. Other leaders present included Jomvu MP, Hon. Badi Twalib, Limuru MP Hon. Eng. Kiragu Chege among others.

Dr. Hunda commended the enthusiastic local community for their large turnout and encouraged them to continue planting trees and conserving the environment even without being prompted by national events graced by elected or other government leaders.

State agencies and private sector organizations, including Kenya Red Cross, Kenya Ferry Services, Kenya Civil Aviation Authority, National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), Kenya Forest Service, Kenya Forestry Research Institute (KEFRI), Kenya Revenue Authority, Equity Bank, Big Ship, National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA), National Environment Management Authority (NEMA), Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA), and Huduma Kenya, among others, participated in the initiative.
