Inspection Tour of the Karenga Airstrip in Kericho County

The Cabinet Secretary for Roads and Transport Hon Kipchumba Murkomen today made an extensive inspection tour of the Karenga Airstrip in Kericho County to assess progress made in its construction.
The CS was impressed with the work that has been done so far  by the Kenya Airports Authority with the support of the Kenya Defence Forces in constructing the Airstrip.
He was excited that the test landing and take off was successful, and the First Lady, Mama Rachel Ruto, became the first person to land and take off from the Airstrip yesterday, 11th October 2023.
Hon. Murkomen expressed satisfaction with the progress of the work, noting that the first phase of the constriction work will be completed before Mashujaa Day celebrations to be celebrated in Kericho County on the 20th of October this year.
He announced that the second phase of the construction work that will entail the paving and expansion of the runway from the current 1.2km to 2km.
The CS disclosed that the Ministry was in talks with the Ekaterra Tea Company to fast-track the process of land acquisition and allow the issuance of operation license, expansion of works, and construction of a modern terminal building.
He said they were working hard to complete the construction of 12 other Airstrips across the country.
Construction of such Aerodromes will facilitate fast movement of people and goods, promotion of tourism, access to emergency medical services, economic growth, and social development in the region.
