Call For Comments and Invitation to Public Participation Forums on the Railways Bill, 2024: Enhancing Kenya's Rail Transport
The Ministry of Roads and Transport, in collaboration with the Kenya Railways Corporation, has developed the Railways Bill, 2024. This proposed Bill aims to repeal and replace the current Kenya Railways Corporation Act, 1978 (Cap 397 Laws of Kenya) with the new Railways Act, 2024.
Key Objectives of the Railways Bill, 2024:
- Establishment of New Entities, clearly separating regulatory and operational responsibilities:
- Creation of the Kenya Railways Corporation.
- Formation of the Railways Regulatory Authority.
- Enhanced Services and Operations:
- Improve the effectiveness and efficiency of railway services.
- Ensure open access to railway infrastructure for operators, promoting a competitive and fair environment for investors and commuters.
Public Participation and Stakeholder Engagement:
In accordance with Article 10(2) of the Constitution of Kenya, the Ministry of Roads and Transport invites members of the public and stakeholders to participate in public forums. These forums are scheduled from August 26 to September 13, 2024.
