The Cabinet Secretary for Roads and Transport Mr. Davis Chirchir conducted an inspection tour of the ongoing construction works for a tuition block at the Kenya Institute of Highways Building Technology (KIHBT) Ngong Campus.
Accompanied by the Principal Secretary for Roads Eng. Joseph Mbugua, the Cabinet Secretary made an extensive tour of the project which is 30% complete.
The project is funded by the World Bank under the Eastern Africa Skills for Transformation and Regional Integration Project (EASTRIP), at a cost of Kshs. 270 million. Once completed, it will comprise of modern classrooms and laboratories, an e-learning Centre, a multipurpose hall and other amenities suitable for learning in the infrastructure and built environment.
Mr. Chirchir said the Ministry of Roads and transport was keen to invest in skills development infrastructure and curricula so that KIHBT can become the training center of choice in the region.
In this regard, he said the Ministry was constructing a Kshs. 187 million tuition Block and a Kshs. 145million accommodation block at the Mechanical Engineering school in the main Campus at Nairobi. Designs for a Kshs. 140 million smart classrooms have been completed and approvals are being awaited to start the project.
Mr. Chirchir also inspected training equipment worth Kshs.60 million which were bought by the World Bank. They include a dozer, a roller and a courtesy bus.
The cabinet Secretary also visited the recently completed Resource Centre which will be commissioned this year.
