Update on the Rehabilitation of Pavement for Runway 14/32 at Wilson Airport and Associated Works

The Principal Secretary, Aviation and Aerospace Development  Ms. Teresia Mbaika conducted an inspection of the on – going works at the Wilson Airport to assess the progress. The enhancement of infrastructure, including the extension of the runway that will allow for landing of bigger equipment, is envisaged to improve operational efficiency.

The department will continue to monitor progress to ensure quality and timely delivery. The project, which will be implemented in five phases, includes critical repairs to sections of the runway, which should be completed within 18 months. It will ensure minimal disruption to airport operations, given the vital role Wilson plays in supporting general aviation, tourism, business travel, and humanitarian support.

There is consideration for the construction of a new terminal facility that will provide a centralized operating area for all operators, improving coordination, passenger experience, and service delivery at the airport.

Handling approximately 250,000 aircraft movements annually, Wilson Airport remains one of the busiest airports in Africa, and these improvements will further strengthen its capacity to support Kenya’s vibrant aviation sector. The commitment of the state department remains clear, to continuously invest in modern, safe, and efficient aviation infrastructure that supports economic growth and connectivity.
