Kenya-Japan Quality Infrastructure Conference

Kenya will host the Kenya-Japan Quality Infrastructure Conference in Nairobi on Wednesday, January 10th, 2024.

The one day conference has been jointly organized by the Ministry of Roads and Transport and the Japan Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism and the Japan-Africa Infrastructure Development Agency (JAIDA).

The main objective of the conference is to provide a platform for consultative bilateral engagement to strengthen partnerships between the Government and the private sectors in both Kenya and Japan, with the aim of exchanging views on demands and issues related to exploring new infrastructure opportunities in Kenya and introducing and sharing modern Japanese technologies in construction. It also provides a platform for business to business matching opportunities.

The Cabinet Secretary for Roads and Transport Hon. Kipchumba Murkomen will preside over the conference and lead the Bilateral discussions on infrastructure development with his counterpart from Japan, State Minister for Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Hon. Kokuba Konosuke. The bilateral talks will focus on future infrastructure development, quality Infrastructure investments and the Mombasa Port Area Road Development (MPARD) Project and other Infrastructure projects in Mombasa.

During the conference, a Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) will be signed between the two Ministries. There shall be recap of the first Conference based on MOC on Cooperation in Development of PPP projects in Kenya and the Japan concept on the MOC. The Directorate of Public Private Partnerships (PPP) shall also make a presentation on PPP projects in the concept of the Cooperation.

The conference will be attended by key stakeholders in the Infrastructure sector. The Principal Secretaries from Roads; Eng. Joseph Mbugua, Transport; Mr. Mohamed Daghar and Water and Sanitation; Mr. Julius Korir. It will be attended by a high powered delegation from the Government of Japan and their private sector, as well as Road Contractors under the Roads and Civil Engineering Contractors Association (RACECA) and the Association of Consulting Engineers of Kenya (ACEK).
