Inspection - Garissa Airstrip

The Principal Secretary for Transport Mr. Mohamed Daghar, CBS together with Defence PS Patrick Mariru, accompanied the Defence Cabinet Secretary Hon. Aden Duale for an inspection of the Garissa Airstrip. They were received by H.E. the Governor Nathif Jama Adam, area MP Major Hon. Dekow Barrow and area MCAs among other members of the Garissa leadership.

The Garissa airstrip will undergo major renovations to give a facelift to its runway, which was constructed in 1984. The upgrade will make the airstrip accommodate more aircraft and ease the transport of goods and people as well as increase its commercial viability while aiding the provision of critical and emergency services such as humanitarian relief and medical evacuation.

The project shall take place in three phases where the first phase shall entail the construction of a perimeter wall around the facility, the expansion of the runway from the current 1.2 kilometers to 1.4 kilometers, a car park, a modern gate and a modern terminal building.

This will be the first time the Airstrip has received such a level of renovation.
